Foundry-grade bentonite clay powder is offered for sand-binder, surface-stabilizer and green-sand or resin-coated-sand additive enquiries. The powder is light grey to cream, with a selectable fineness label of 100–325 mesh for the intended iron- or steel-casting process.
Choose the role within the sand system
Identify whether the bentonite is being evaluated as a green-sand binder, a surface stabilizer or an additive in resin-coated sand. Describe the existing sand and binder chemistry and the result required by the foundry. Each role should have an acceptance brief appropriate to the process being evaluated.
Compare composition and moisture on a consistent basis
Stated composition ranges are SiO2 55–65% and Al2O3 15–20%, with moisture at most 12%. Use these references alongside the required batch data for incoming acceptance. Agree the actual particle-size distribution and grading method behind the nominal 100–325-mesh selection.
- Identify the mold or core application and casting metal.
- Describe the current sand and binder system.
- Select the fineness and required grading acceptance.
- Specify composition, moisture and batch-data requirements.
- Define the trial conditions and required supply quantity.
Make the trial specific to the selected application
Use the foundry's process conditions to establish the evaluation method and any dosage requirement. Record the accepted grade and trial criteria with the order so purchasing has a clear reference for repeat supply. The fine-powder description can then be considered alongside the actual binder or surface-stabilization performance required.
