OEM iron-component enquiries include gray-iron sand-cast parts and ductile-iron saddle or water-divider requests. Identify the actual item and select its complete material grade. A saddle, divider and other drawing-defined casting each need a component brief describing their own function.
Describe the connection the casting must make
For a saddle, show the supporting or mating geometry and the way it attaches to surrounding components. For a water divider, identify the actual flow connections and internal form required by the design. Mark the datums and dimensions controlling the chosen component’s fit.
State the duty relevant to material selection
Provide loads, environmental conditions and the required supplied state for the selected part. For a fluid-contact design, identify the medium and operating conditions that determine acceptance. Name the applicable material document and condition rather than using the iron family alone to define suitability.
- Provide quantity and a controlled component drawing.
- Mark connection and working-surface requirements.
- Identify any further work required at mating interfaces.
- Define material, dimensional and surface approval records.
- State the acceptance checks required by the intended duty.
Set the component-approval deliverable
Explain the purpose of an initial sample and the characteristics it must demonstrate. If reference parts or assembly information accompany the drawing, identify their role in establishing fit. Carry the approved material and geometry into the order so the casting supply addresses the selected saddle, divider or other iron component.
