Custom cast components can be defined through their material, secondary operations and surface requirements. This enquiry includes grey-iron sand casting and stainless-steel lost-wax/investment casting, with carbon steel, alloy steel, brass and aluminum as additional material choices. Standard or OEM size requests should identify the actual part geometry.
Select the route and component dimensions
Name the grade and manufacturing route required for the design. Automotive, marine and machinery applications should include the interfaces and duty conditions relevant to the ordered component. Provide a controlled drawing rather than relying on an application label for fit or acceptance.
- Select the metal grade and cast-component route.
- Provide the standard or OEM dimensional requirement.
- Identify machining interfaces and their acceptance limits.
- Specify the required finish and supplied condition.
Allocate drilling, reaming and CNC work
Machining choices include drilling, reaming, tapping, CNC turning and milling, and wire EDM. Mark the operations required by the geometry and the dimensions accepted after machining. The tolerance reference is VDG P690 D2; identify the applicable document and its dimensional requirements for the selected casting.
Choose the surface treatment for the actual metal
E-coating, zinc treatment, polishing, sandblasting, galvanizing and powder coating are named finishes. Select the treatment required by the component's function and identify contact areas needing particular instructions. The final acceptance should describe the supplied part after the selected machining and surface work.
Identify supplier and application documents
ISO9001-2015 is the qualification reference. Request the relevant current documentation and scope for the order. Keep those requirements alongside the selected grade, VDG reference and finished-part inspection criteria.
