Bring the machinery housing's final interfaces into the aluminum casting brief from the beginning. This OEM and ODM enquiry combines resin-coated sand casting, CNC machining and zinc-plated finishing for a custom component. The housing drawing should explain which dimensions control assembly and what condition is required at the completed surfaces.
Plan the housing's critical geometry
A machinery housing can have a broad cast envelope while relying on selected features for assembly. Identify the aluminum part's datum scheme and distinguish a functional mating surface from an exterior surface when the design requires that distinction. The casting and machining discussion can then focus on the housing features that matter to the intended equipment rather than applying one requirement indiscriminately.
- Choose the aluminum alloy for the custom housing blank.
- Mark the housing features included in the CNC machining scope.
- Identify the dimensions requiring the 0.01 mm tolerance.
- Define the required relationship between polishing and zinc plating.
- Set acceptance criteria for the completed housing surfaces and interfaces.
Connect machining with the plated finish
A zinc-plated housing should be specified with its finished dimensions in mind. Where a machined interface has a particular surface requirement, show the intended final condition on the aluminum component drawing. Polishing and coating instructions should describe the requested result for that surface, without assuming that every area of the housing receives the same treatment or dimensional requirement.
Set the acceptance basis before the housing is ordered
The quality-control scope includes 100% inspection, so identify the measurements and checks relevant to the custom aluminum part. GB, ASTM, AISI, DIN and BS are available standard families; select the applicable specification for the project rather than treating those names as one interchangeable requirement. With the alloy, datum scheme and finish defined together, the machinery-housing enquiry has a practical basis for casting, machining and final acceptance.
