    Gray cast iron

Grey-cast-iron mechanical components are offered through a sand-casting enquiry. The component drawing is the most useful starting point: it defines the shape to be cast and the interfaces that determine whether the part will work within the buyer's mechanical assembly.

Give the grey-iron requirement a complete reference

State the required grade and governing standard alongside the part number. If a replacement is being sourced, connect the new drawing to the accepted component revision and describe the operating role. This provides a clear basis for discussing the iron requirement without relying on a broad material name alone.

Show the casting in its assembly context

Identify the mating parts, mounting locations and any areas where the casting must fit within a restricted space. Mark the dimensions that control those relationships. A drawing that distinguishes functional interfaces from general cast surfaces helps the supplier understand the purpose of the dimensional requirements.

  • Provide the current drawing or a dimensioned component reference.
  • Specify the grey-iron grade and applicable standard.
  • Identify mounting interfaces and critical envelope dimensions.
  • Describe the required delivered condition and order quantity.
  • Define the acceptance checks for the completed casting.

Agree the boundary of the casting order

State whether the request is for the casting alone or whether additional work is required on the selected part. Any further operations should be agreed as part of that enquiry. Recording the accepted drawing, material and delivered condition together creates a practical reference for inspection and repeat purchasing of the same mechanical component.
