    Ductile cast iron

Custom large iron-component enquiries include grey-iron and ductile-iron requests, with lost-foam or sand-casting routes and machining requirements. Select the actual iron family and complete grade for the component. Its overall envelope, functional interfaces and supplied condition should be defined before the manufacturing scope is agreed.

Present the large part from overall form to interfaces

Start with an overall drawing that shows the component’s envelope, then detail the mounting and mating geometry. Identify the datums relating those areas and any access needed for measurement or assembly. This provides a basis for reviewing the actual large-part requirement rather than relying on a general size description.

  • State the complete material designation and governing standard.
  • Provide the controlled drawing and required quantity.
  • Mark dimensions needing machining and their acceptance criteria.
  • Define material and surface acceptance for the delivered part.

Specify the spraying requirement

Spraying is the named surface-treatment scope. Define the actual process, coverage and required final condition for the selected material. Mark areas that require masking or a particular contact-surface condition, and include any visual reference used for approval of exposed surfaces.

Agree capability and acceptance for the drawing

Confirm the proposed route and actual large-component capability using the selected geometry and grade. Identify the inspection records needed for the functional dimensions and supplied condition. If a sample or first-part approval is requested, establish the drawing revision, measurement references and acceptance criteria that will also govern the subsequent order.
