Custom OEM grey iron parts are offered through sand casting. Define the component geometry, selected iron specification and acceptance requirements for each enquiry. If ductile iron is requested, establish its grade and component requirements separately before agreeing that material direction.
Establish what the iron part must do
Describe its role within the equipment and the relationships that govern installation. Show mounting positions, locating features and mating components on the controlled drawing. For a replacement part, explain which dimensions represent the intended design and which areas of an existing component may reflect wear. Tie the enquiry to the actual assembly conditions.
Define the required supply condition
State the complete iron grade and identify whether the deliverable is as cast or requires additional work. Mark dimensions needing machining or other processing for agreement during quotation. Specify any finish or heat-treatment requirements and the stage at which important features must meet their acceptance limits.
Prepare the approval requirements
- Identify the drawing revision, component quantity and intended duty.
- Specify the controlled dimensions, governing datums and permitted limits.
- Agree inspection coverage and any material or dimensional records required.
Explain any operating conditions that affect the material selection or evaluation of the part. Keep grey iron and a separately requested ductile iron specification distinct throughout the quotation. When approving a design change, identify its effect on the supplied condition and acceptance plan. Repeat production enquiries should remain connected to the same component drawing and selected material specification.
