Custom gray-iron sand castings for industrial use can include CNC and micro-machining. Separate multi-metal machining, punching and prototype requests require their own part scope. Select the actual component, complete material grade and compatible route around the intended working relationships.

Choose the machining material and operation

Additional materials are aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, hardened metals, precious metals, stainless steel and steel alloys. Named operations include broaching, drilling, etching or chemical machining, laser machining, milling, turning and wire EDM. Define the selected method and final geometry rather than assigning the full menu to every item.

Set the cast and machined acceptance

Mark locating references and the interfaces governing the industrial component’s fit. Put dimensional limits and measurement conditions on the actual drawing. Define a rapid prototype’s purpose and identify the characteristics that must be approved before the selected production request.

  • Design-data references include Pro/Engineer, SolidWorks, Unigraphics and AutoCAD.
  • File references are IGS, STP, STL and X-T.
  • Painting is a surface-finish request for the chosen component.
  • Specify coverage and final contact requirements for that finish.

Describe the actual industrial application

Identify equipment duty, mating components and the required supplied state. State quantity and the controlling gray-iron or separate component revision. Define material, dimensional and surface records needed for acceptance, retaining approved process changes with that particular item and its selected gray-iron or separate machined-component interfaces.
