Custom steel or iron components can be requested through sand or investment casting with CNC and micro-machining. Separate multi-material machining and prototype enquiries require their own item definitions. Select the complete grade, incoming form and compatible route for each actual component.

Assign the machining material and method

Material references include aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, hardened metals, precious metals, stainless steel and steel alloys. Named services are broaching, drilling, etching or chemical machining, laser machining, milling, turning, wire EDM and rapid prototyping. Identify the selected operation and the result it must produce on the requested part.

Define the cast and finished relationships

Show the component’s mounting, locating and mating geometry within its intended assembly. Mark dimensions needing final work and distinguish them from cast-state regions. Establish functional limits and measurement conditions for interfaces evaluated together at acceptance.

Set prototype and supplied-surface approval

Explain what a prototype must demonstrate before approving the selected production definition. Identify visible or working areas and the required final surface result. Keep those requirements tied to the actual material and the state in which the component will be supplied.

  • State the casting or separate machined part’s quantity and controlling revision.
  • Describe the application duty and adjoining equipment.
  • Specify material, dimensional and surface acceptance records.
  • Retain approved grade and processing decisions with the component.

Use that accepted geometry and supplied-state definition when confirming further work.
