Customized OEM gray-iron parts can be requested through sand casting to an actual component specification. Select the complete grade and required material condition before defining the part’s supplied state. A controlled drawing should show the cast geometry and the relationships it must maintain in use.
Describe the gray-iron component’s function
Identify the equipment or assembly in which the selected part will work. Show its mounting, locating and contacting relationships with adjoining components. State the operating duty and environment relevant to the chosen material and design.
Translate installation needs into drawing limits
Mark the references used to assess fit and the dimensions governing those interfaces. Specify permitted limits and the conditions under which they will be measured. Distinguish regions accepted in their cast state from surfaces needing a different supplied result.
- Provide the gray-iron part’s quantity and controlling design revision.
- Identify the complete governing material requirements.
- Define appearance and contact conditions at visible or working surfaces.
- Specify material, dimensional and surface evidence for approval.
Set initial and repeat component acceptance
Explain what an initial casting must demonstrate against its actual mating arrangement. Agree the checks needed to establish that geometry and supplied condition meet the selected use. Retain approved grade and interface changes within the component record so further OEM requests refer to the same gray-iron design and accepted condition for the chosen installation.
